Malibu Molly

In fact there are never any bluebirds over the White Cliffs of Dover as they don't actually live in Dover, nor the wider Kent, not in the UK at all. With the van still sitting on the driver and diesel at Tesco in Cheriton still the cheapest it has been for a long time, we decided to have a run out to Diver, a walk on the White Cliffs and then back home via Tesco. As it happened after I got back from Kent Greyhound Rescue, where I volunteer twice a week we did a "big shop" at Sainsbury's in Hythe. Much of what we wanted was sold out or simply not stocked!  Quark FFS! So that was also added into the return trip from the Cliffs. I took the Canon 1100D with me today. The old Nikon D50 had gone to Brighton with us and it never left the van.  As it was sunny and dry, I decided to give the Canon a run out. The thing with digital is you can simply bang away and there's no anxiety about wasting a shot. Anyway.  After a walk we ended up in the café and of course, it was cof...

With the cold weather I was a little worried that the van's battery was going to drop with it not being used. So we went and got it out of storage and went to the White Cliffs again. The view of the outside from inside the van. We haven't done this before!!! Reggie now has one. The visitor centre and cafe. Malibu Molly and Reggie!

Another trip out over the holidays and once again the destination was the White Cliffs of Dover. Again no bluebirds. Over or otherwise. We did get to park in one of the six designated spaces for campers which was a miracle, but we shared the spaces with five cars.....  It was very cold with the temp gauge on the dash showing 2ºC with a wind chill off the sea that would have brought it even lower. We had our own coffee with us, three Colombian coffee pods from the Tassimo machine at home put in a flask.  As well as a walk we had a sit in the van to watch the ferries coming and going from the port below, Even though I took the Nikon with me I have taken only one photo today.... on my phone. Where next?  With "winter" due any day we may not be going out very soon.

With a weekend trip away to Suffolk approaching, we got Malibu Molly out of secure storage  again.  We have plenty of LPG in the two bottles in the back locker, but I wanted to ensure we had enough diesel to make the journey up to East Anglia. Our first stop was once again to the White Cliffs and the newly re-imagined motorhome parking. It had been raining for a few days and one storm after another was coming off the Atlantic! It was wet.  The spaces this time were a little full, one with a car, two with a large pile of gravel and tarmac plus a massive puddle, and one with a Belgian registered Adria campervan.  We squeezed in between the car and the gravel pile/puddle. After a walk up to see the cattle that are on the cliffs as part of the nature scheme we settled down in the comfort of the van to look at the view with a flask of coffee. Claire wanted to go to the shop and walked over. It closed at 4pm. It was 4.01pm.... Home via petrol station at Tesco! ...

We picked up Malibu Molly yesterday.  For our first drive out we decided to have a trip to Dover and the White Cliffs. There is a parking area just beyond the visitor centre that has recently been marked up as motorhome parking. There are six marked spaces. They are the same as before, so no wider, but are workable. The signage on the approach is not that clear although all the wooden posts are marked with a motorhome symbol. The drive is so much easier. Being automatic takes much of the strain in traffic away.  More relaxing and more concentration on driving and avoiding all the other road users!!
