Campers & Coffee - June 8th
Another chance to get away in the van after the aborted holiday plans. Feeling much better whilst I am on the third course of antibiotics I booked us into Campers & Coffee.
As I was late booking, we could only book for the day visit on Sunday. As it turned out that was probably for the best as there was torrential rain on Saturday afternoon and into the evening. It seemed that the weather put a lot of people off and they appeared on Sunday as well.
We set off about 9am and the TomTom calculated it would be about 90 minutes on the road. The route chosen included some of the most pot holed roads in England, or so it seemed!
On arrival what we thought would be an idyllic village was in fact surrounded by massive housing estates still being built. It seems that everyone needs four bedroomed houses nowadays. What happened to "affordable housing" so that youngsters can get on the property ladder or afford to leave home?
We checked in. I had printed our tickets as I don't/didn't trust the phone to work. A good choice as the signal was terrible. Let's hope all the people moving into the hundreds of new homes have WiFi!
We were given a number for the windscreen. This is apparently for the public vote - best van. I doubt our 2020 Malibu would have got one vote; you aren't allowed to vote for yourself!
Once parked up we went for a walk around the site. It's not a massive event like the Warner's Shows with hundreds of stalls, it's small and more intimate. We had a coffee and went back to the van.
I had ordered a cream tea for two from the Cornish Company as a treat and we had the scones and Rodda's clotted cream in the fridge. In the end we ate it when we got home!
It seems that lots of van owners open their doors so that other owners walking around can look in and see the layouts etc. We did the same and even had a few people interested in looking! Even Reggie was accommodating and allowed visitors to stroke him!
I took the Sony pocket camera with me and I used that to take photos of the vans and the field in general. I'll share a few photos here as the big Dell laptop refuses to read the memory card! I had to download them from Facebook!!!!
For lunch we went to the mobile pizza wagon. For us just a margarita between the two of us and it was really good. Reggie had a bit of crust.
After a few more walks around and looking in other vans Claire saw one of the vloggers we follow on YouTube and we went to have a chat. Ashley from "Motorhome Discoveries". Very approachable and a nice bloke. He gave us a few to tips on aires in France and Spain. We tend to use Camping-Car Park aires. They aren't expensive and tend to be a little more secure that car-parks. But any tips are gratefully received.
The imported from Canada RV (top picture) was the public's vote for best on the day and the green Westfalia (second pic) was runner-up.
After the prize giving everyone started to pack up. We went for a final coffee and it was the best of the day. When we got back to Molly there was loads of empty space! We packed up, Reggie went back into his little "cage" and we set off about 3.45pm. Pretty much retracing the steps we came on. I decided that I wasn't going to go from Battle across the pot holed hell we came on and we stuck to the A28 to Ashford and then the M20. It was a longer way home but it was on much better roads!
Once home we unloaded the van and Reggie went in to have his dinner. He had breakfast early and dinner late! He doesn't seem to mind as long as he gets treats all day!
