October in France...
The route southwards in France is pretty much sorted now.
With three stops at Camping-Car Park (CCP) aires planned, I decided to book the first night in advance.
By the time we arrive in France it will be around 2pm. No doubt we'll want to get some shopping done on the way.
I have chosen the CCP aire at Formerie as the first stop. It's around 100 miles from Eurotunnel. It's only got 6 emplacements so booking might be a good idea. Just in case..
To book in advance rather than taking pot luck, you need to pay for the "PACK'PRIVILEGES" subscription. Mine runs out on the 4th October. So I was able to pre-book this stop and if necessary, the following two.
It's debatable whether it's worth the €29 to buy as it doesn't really give anything but pre-booking. It may be worth it for high season. With the app installed on the phones we can check the area and choose an aire that has plenty of space. It is slow to update, or was on the old app, so it should avoid arriving and finding full. As yet we haven't had that experience.
As they are both much larger sites it may not be necessary anyway. Plus we are well out of the high or main holiday season.
The next stop is currently planned to be Bruère-Allichamps. One of the villages claiming to be the geographical centre of France. There are a few that contest this claim.
The third overnight is planned for La Canourgue. It's off the A75 autoroute south of Clermont-Ferrand.
Apart from the A16 from Boulogne to Abbeville, the rest of the journey should be toll free. I only do this toll section as the old N1 is one of the most tedious roads imaginable...
All the routes have been planned in the MyRouteApp app and website and then saved as GPX files for input to the TomTom planner website.
Even though MyRouteApp is set to create routes for a motorhome, when the GPX is uploaded to TomTom Plan it reverts back to a car. Then you have to edit it and change the vehicle type.
In both apps/websites I have Malibu Molly's dimensions loaded in with a few centimetres extra to allow for narrow roads!
